Volunteers Invited to Join Us

You're invited to become a volunteer and perhaps an officer of our organization. We are a small group and are looking for other fellow greyhound lovers to join us in our mission to help retired greyhounds from Florida find loving homes in the Upstate.

We have openings on our board of directors for a secretary  and a treasurer. Meetings are held once a month, generally on the second Tuesday. All are invited. Call the number below for the precise meeting schedule and location.

Volunteers who are interested in fostering greyhounds  and attending meet and greets in the Anderson and Woodruff Road PetSmarts on most Saturdays are especially needed.

To learn more about us please peruse our web site. For even more info please email us or call 864-338-8753.

Welcome!
Greyhound Pets of America - Electric City Chapter is an all volunteer, non-profit, 501(c)3 group of greyhound adopters incorporated in South Carolina. We are committed to placing retired racing greyhounds from Florida in compatible, loving pet homes in Anderson County and Upstate South Carolina.

We also strive to show the public that greyhounds are delightful, sensitive, companionable dogs who can become wonderful pets once their racing days are done. We welcome all greyhound adopters and admirers into our family.
About Us
We're proud to be a chapter of the largest national greyhound adoption network, Greyhound Pets of Amerca, also known as the GPA. The organization consists of more than 50 greyhound adoption groups known as chapters and sub-chapters, all of which focus on greyhound adoption and education about retired racing greyhounds.

The GPA - Electric City Chapter, founded in the summer of 2008, is located in the northwest part of South Carolina. Although we are based in Anderson, we serve the entire upstate of South Carolina. Because we were greyhound owners before becoming adoption volunteers, we have a good bit of knowledge about greyhounds; some of us have almost thirty years experience with them. Most of our members have been a part of other greyhound adoption groups and are quite knowledgeable about the entire adoption process.  We hope to welcome you into our family.
Our Next Meeting

Tuesday, July 14, 6:30 PM at the Barnett residence.
Call 338-8753 for directions.
All greyhound adopters and greyhound lovers are invited to attend meetings. Meetings are generally 60 to 90 minutes long.
Catch up with us on July 18 at the
P.E.T.S Festival.
What is it?

The P.E.T.S. Festival is an annual event held by the Animal Studies Department of Greenville Technical College meant to promote animal care and welfare in our community. Past events have included pet-friendly vendors, grooming competitions, raffles, dog supplies, and veterinary consultations. Both friendly, leashed pets and their human guardians, along with the entire family, are welcome at the P.E.T.S Festival. The college's address is 8109 White Horse Road, Greenville, South Carolina.

Many thanks to all the cyclists for the fantastic turnout at the June 27th Greyhound Rescue Ride. A special thank you goes to the event organizers and fellow greyhound adopters, Steve and Lisa Alexander, for their tireless hard work and attention to detail.

Help wanted: we need some good foster homes.
Have you ever thought about being a foster home for a retired racing greyhound? We hope so because fostering is the heart of our greyhound adoption program; in fact, our foster people are the most valuable people in our organization. Without them, the dogs would have no idea what a home is and would have nowhere to stay while waiting to be adopted. Your being a foster home would be doing a great service to the dogs and their future adopters. Plus, if you've ever wondered what it would be like to live with a greyhound, this is a perfect way to find out.  If you think you might be interested in fostering one our retired racers from Florida and in teaching them "the ropes" of home life, please contact Vicki Stewart, GPA-EC's Adoption Director at 864-642-5217 or email her at gpaelectriccityadoptions@gmail.com
